A short circuit in a bedroom outlet resulted in a Nov. 17 fire at former city council member Bobbie Blandburg’s home at 323 Bridge Street in Senoia.

Fire crews worked for more than four hours to extinguish the blaze that damaged 70 percent of the home but resulted in no injuries.

Coweta Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Jeff Denney said the fire occurred at approximately 10:22 a.m. and was caused by an electrical outlet in a bedroom that shorted-out.

The damage was extensive, Denney said, explaining that approximately 70 percent of the one-story house was damaged, with the majority of the damage done to the home’s interior.

Denney said there were no injuries in the blaze, adding that one person might have been home at the time of the fire.

A total of six fire stations responded to the fire, with units from four stations initially fighting the blaze and units from two additional stations rotated in during the more than four hours needed to extinguish the fire.

Denney said the difficulty in fighting the fire was due to the tongue-and-groove interior materials and the various spaces located in the attic.
