A variance request that would allow the RaceTrac convenience store on Ga. Highway 34 in Newnan to renovate and update its location was approved July 15 by the Coweta County Commission.

County zoning administrator Angela White said RaceTrac requested a number of variances related to the company’s plan to totally renovate and update its current location on Hwy. 34 at the Shenandoah Industrial Park.

The variance requests included issues such as setbacks, interior and street planting, solid waste recycling and dumpster screening, according to county planning staff.

RaceTrac also acquired additional property to the east to provide additional space for the redevelopment project, White said.

“With the increased business on Hwy. 34 and entrance to the Shenandoah Industrial Park to a high performing store, the company senses the opportunity to (request) design changes and (alter) product offerings from its beginnings on the site in 1982,” said White.

The store will incorporate 5,200 sq. ft. of retail with 728 sq. ft. of fast food including fresh food delivered daily and a Swirl World Frozen Yogurt feature.

The Board of Zoning Appeals recommended approval of the variance requests.

The vote by commissioners to approve the request was unanimous.
