The ABCDs We Grow With

I didn’t realize the ABCs could still be helpful as an adult. We learn them when we’re young because they’re the foundation of language, and life keeps inviting us to use that foundation in new ways.

In our work, a similar alphabet (ABCD) keeps showing up when things get real. Not as rigid rules we must obey, but as a shared language that helps teams think together. Creativity stays wide open while the letters simply help us notice what’s landing and what might need more care.

As we practice, the order matters less than the intention. Some days start with Attention because a moment needs a clearer beginning. Other days begin with Branding, because identity wants a stronger voice. Often we lead with Connection, listening for what people truly care about, and when clarity arrives, Direction makes the next step feel natural.

The basics keep us focused on people first. Before the headline, there’s a person scanning for meaning; before the metric, there’s a moment that either feels helpful or doesn’t. When we aim the work at real lives (what eases a burden or sparks a smile) the results tend to follow.
