Imagine the surprise when students walked into the cafeteria at Inman Elementary to discover that their lunch was being served the school system’s superintendent.

Dr. Joseph Barrow rolled up his sleeves and put on a pair of gloves, apron and chef’s hat to serve students as they came through the lunch line on October 14 in celebration of National School Lunch Week.

If the excitement of seeing the superintendent serve lunch was not enough, 11 lucky students with stickers on the bottom of their lunch trays were given basketballs. The winners were Drake Hulsman, Dylan Mcgee, Harry Chaney, Equre Oniyeme, Taylor Carter, Isabella Newlove, Mathew Sanders, Strozier Deziya, William Miller, Lula Huber, and Travis Miller.

President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week in 1962. The goal of the campaign is to increase awareness of the importance of school meals and the role of school nutrition professionals in academic achievement and overall wellness.
