School starts this week in Fayette County. That means that all of the kids who have been moved around to new schools are probably pretty nervous right about now.
I have to say, going to a new school is not something that I have never done before. In fact, I have been to several. Many of my classmates however, have not. They have been in the same schools for their whole life. It is scary for them.
However, I know one thing for sure! If something old never ends, nothing new will ever get started. It will be different, and maybe scary, but we can do it!
Monday, I will start at Bennett’s Mill Middle School for my eighth-grade year. Most of my classmates from FMS have transferred over here with me. I am hoping that this year will be great, even if it takes some adjustment.
I’m especially excited to see my teachers from Fayette Middle that transferred here as well. I think we have about a 50/50 split of FMS/BMMS teachers. In the last few days at FMS, I made all of my teachers cards and had my yearbook signed by each of them.
As I walked the halls on that last day, I knew that I would be taking with me all of those memories. Tomorrow morning, I will be holding onto those memories as I walk in new halls.
They say that you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. That was proven to be true on those last few days.
Now, the Cubs have moved on. Some of us are Tigers, some are Mustangs, some are (other mascots that I don’t know the names of), but all of us are still moving. We bloom; we grow; skyrocketing through high-school and college to make a difference in the world.
And we will always remember our school where songs were sung and friends were made that we needed. Those memories can never be repeated.
The teachers taught me to be myself, no need to be anyone else. And now I walk new halls, sing new songs, make new friends, and make even more memories from the next school to help build me.
This time around, my column is different. There is no loss or trauma that we are suffering right now, and hopefully we won’t have to face one anytime soon.
This is a new year for Fayette County students. We have new schools, new friends, new teachers, and new experiences every day.
My mom always says that if you have to do something, regardless of whether you wanted to or not, do it all the way with your whole heart. There is no “half-way” allowed at our house.
There was no “half-way” allowed at FMS.
Now I get to see if that translates to the rest of Fayette County. So when you hear me say “Black and Gold All the Way!” Now you know what I mean.
