The Flat Rock Middle School Symphonic Band, led by band director Matthew Price, was chosen through an extremely competitive audition process to play at the most prestigious music event the state has to offer. This event is the 2013-2014 Georgia Music Educator’s In Service Conference in Savannah.
Only two bands are picked each year to perform for the annual music conference. Being chosen for this honor means that Flat Rock, according to the governing body made up of music professionals throughout our state, has one of, if not the best band in the state at this time. They want to allow these amazing kids the opportunity to play at a live performance.
The band has also been invited through competitive audition to be a performer at the Southeastern United States Band Clinic at Troy University December 5-7. Two bands are picked from states throughout the Southeast to put on display the absolute best in music education at this time. This is an extremely high honor and will be extremely visible for Flat Rock and the Fayette County Public School System.
When asked about being chosen for both of these prestigious events, Price said, “It has been my belief since the day I set foot inside of our school that our kids at Flat Rock can do anything and can produce performances unlike any others in the state if they were simply motivated and inspired to do so. A very wise and experienced teacher once told me that I would be amazed at what children can do if I would just show them that they had the resources and the support to do so.”
