Members of Hopewell United Methodist Church will host their third “Stop Hunger Now” event on Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m., at the church in Tyrone. This year they plan to package 15,000 meals to be sent to hungry people all over the globe.
“Stop Hunger Now” is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world. The organization currently gives aid to more than 75 countries.It is driven by the vision of a world without hunger and a mission to end hunger in our lifetime. The organization hopes to do this by providing food and life-saving aid to the worlds’ most vulnerable people and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.
Hopewell’s meal packaging event will provide volunteers the opportunity to package dehydrated, high protein, and highly nutritious meals that are used primarily to save lives in developing countries around the world.
Tom Wallace, Hopewell’s mission coordinator, says, “The excitement generated by this meal packing event is contagious. People of all ages and walks of life come together for a two hour packing blitz and every one of them leaves with a smile on their face. Every time a case of meals is completed a gong is sounded and a great cheer goes up from the volunteers. We all truly believe our efforts will help those less fortunate.”
The event is primarily for Hopewell members, but volunteers from the community are welcome. Those whose organizations would like to host a meal packing event are welcome to come and observe. Likewise, the community can help by making a donation, payable to Hopewell UMC, and earmarking the check “Stop Hunger Now.”
