Starr’s Mill quartet shines at chamber music competition

Quartet Le Petit, a foursome of Starr’s Mill students competing against many of the top students in the Metro Atlanta area, received the 2nd Place Prize and the School Prize in the 2021 Franklin Pond Chamber Music Competition sponsored by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The Quartet Le Petit of Didi Stone (Violin 1), Lucas Nyman (Violin 2), Jodie Stone (Viola), and Richard Wang (Cello) competed in the high school division and performed Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18, No 4.

In addition to the 2nd Place Prize, they were also honored with the School Prize, a very prestigious award given only to groups whose members all attend the same school. It is offered every year, but it is uncommon for quartet members to be from the same school.

The Starr’s Mill Orchestra program was awarded a glass trophy bearing both the school’s name and the quartet’s name, as well as a cash prize of $1,000 to be split evenly between the quartet and the school program.

Quartet Le Petit has been together for almost 6 years and won 6 awards, five of which are from FPCM.
