OMA stands for: Operation Mobilization Arts. They are hosting an Arts Celebration Event, October 26, Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at their OM USA headquarters, 285 Lynwoods Avenue, Tyrone. It is a free concert.
Local singer-songwriter, Bill Drake, will perform songs from his new CD “Broken and Complete.” Drake has released several full-length albums and is the Director of OM Arts International.
Other artists performing at the event include: Jon Simpson band, Dancelink (dancers), Pat Butler (poetry reading), Hearts Sounds International, The Unicycle Show, and The School of ARTS from Italy. The latter being, “The School of Mission [that] trains and mentors skilled artists about how to use their art to tell the world about Jesus Christ. The school is held in Italy and OM Arts staff does the teaching, training, and mentoring,” explained Cary King, Drake’s personal assistant.
OM is the 5th largest evangelical mission in the world and OM Arts is a collective of Christian artists from around the world that minister through art.
Winning people’s hearts to God with the arts? It may seem a little odd, but not for this group of visual artists, sculptors, dancers, singers, songwriters, creative entertainers, poets, and musicians.
Why music? Why the arts? King states, “Arts opens the doors to other cultures. All cultures have their own music and their own forms of art. It bridges the gap and allows us talk about where our music truly comes from.”
The Facebook invitation for the event says, “Come experience some of their art first hand and learn how our Creative God is employing the Arts to draw people to Himself all over the world!”
Refreshments will be served and CD’s, books, t-shirts will be for sale.
Donations will be accepted and donations go to OM Arts of OM International for building arts bases around the world and sponsoring short term ministry trips for artists to go and be Light.
