Fayetteville Elementary 2nd grade teacher Renee Callier ensures all of her students feel seen and heard.
Callier was destined to be in the classroom. Her mother is a high school math teacher, and Renee would help set up her mom’s room and design bulletin boards before each year began.
“I just couldn’t wait to have my own classroom,” she said. “I’ve always been keen to be around kids, be around young people, and I’ve always gravitated towards playing teacher.”
Fayetteville Elementary is where she started her teaching career 8 years ago, and she bleeds the Tiger Cubs’ blue and orange, right down to the color of her shoes.
“FES was the only school I applied to,” she remembered. “I got a callback the next week, and the rest is history.”
Callier’s passion is rooted in connection and empowerment.
“I’m big on making sure that students are not only mastering the content but also mastering themselves as people and learning themselves and continuing to grow within themselves.”
Each Tiger Cub is an important member of her classroom community.
“Making sure that every voice and every thought and everyone is seen and feels important and feels valued is something that I’m very passionate about,” said Callier. “I want to be able to foster confidence and assure them that you are a good person, now let’s be a good student.”
