Donzetta “Doni” Ward Mills, 86, of Peachtree City, GA passed away on August 22, 2024 after a heart-breaking battle with both physical and mental decline brought on by dementia.
Doni Mills was born in Durham, NC on August 16,1938 to William and Mary Ward. Doni was one of six children — Barbara, Henry, Libby, Mary “Pinky,” Sue.
On July 21,1956 Doni married Calvin Mills of Apex, NC. Doni and Cal were married for 68 years. They had three children, Ricky, Michael, and Pamela.
Doni and Cal were in the U.S. Air Force over 20 years where Cal retired as a Lt. Colonel. After Cal’s retirement from the Air Force, the couple moved to Saudi Arabia where Cal served in numerous capacities in the aviation department for Saudi Aramco, up to and including Chief Pilot. Doni and Cal would spend seventeen wonderful years in Arabia where Doni was an avid golfer and bridge player.
After Saudi Arabia, Doni and Cal first relocated to Marietta, GA and then to Peachtree City, GA. Doni and Cal continued their love of golf. Over the course of her golf career, Doni would score three holes-in-one. She also continued her passion for bridge.
Doni is preceded in death by her son, Michael; daughter, Pamela; her parents; and her siblings, Barbara, Libby, and Mary ‘Pinky”.
Doni is survived by her loving husband, Cal; beloved son, Ricky; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and siblings, Henry Ward and Sue Ward.
A Celebration of Doni’s Life will be held in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home & Crematory, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269 on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that guest wear casual attire to the service.
