The Fayette County Commission plans to collect $135.3 million in its Fiscal Year 2025 budget set to be adopted this Thursday. The commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget before adoption.
One big feature will be a rollback in the county tax millage rate so that the county theoretically brings in roughly the same amount of money from each taxpayer that its previous year’s rate produced.
That’s why the county is advertising its budget as being a “no tax increase” budget.
That’s unlike the Peachtree City Council, which plans to keep most of its last year’s millage rate to collect significantly more money from city taxpayers because of an overall increase in property values. Same millage rate plus higher property values equals more money owed to the city by the taxpayers.
County employees across its 40 departments can expect to get between 1.25% up to 5% pay raises, with top performers getting raises of 6.25% under the proposed “forced merit performance” pay plan. The county’s minimum wage will be increased to $16 per hour.
The county has 793 full-time and 30 part-time employees, which represents 16 new full-time positions over FY2024.
Also on the agenda are public hearings on two proposed rezonings: nearly 8 acres from A-R to ccommercial zoning for undeveloped land fronting on Ga. Highway 85 and Price Road, and a request to make two parcels out of one on Old Farm Road.
