A motorist thought he had escaped from law enforcement a couple of months ago, but he was tracked down last week and taken to jail.
A Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spokesman reported that a suspect fled from deputies in the wee hours of Jan. 19 after an attempted traffic stop due to a number of violations. The suspect drove so recklessly that deputies made the decision to stop the pursuit for safety reasons. They obtained warrants because they knew the identity of the offender, and they served those warrants March 3.
Ricardo Robinson, 40, of Atlanta faces a felony charge of fleeing/eluding law enforcement as well as traffic violations that include excessive tint on windshield, obstruction of and officer, reckless driving, tag light required, too fast for conditions, obedience to traffic control device, driving on wrong side of road, and passing within 200 feet of oncoming traffic.
Elsewhere in the county, a red SUV was seen the afternoon of March 5 on Hwy. 74 at East Crestwood with an improperly displayed tag. The ensuing traffic stop by Peachtree City police led to the discovery of multiple controlled substances, according to the report.
Nicholas Smith, 30, of Stockbridge was arrested and charged with two felony drug counts as well as a felony count of possession of a weapon in commission of a crime, according to the Fayette County Jail log. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession along with a half-dozen traffic violations, including the tag violation that got him pulled over in the first place.
A Fayetteville police officer conducted a traffic stop in the early hours of March 2 for failure to maintain lane. It was determined during the stop that the suspect was driving under the influence. He was arrested for that and taken to the Fayette County Jail.
A report indicated that he was not very cooperative at the jail, and while processing him the jail staff searched him and found marijuana and other narcotics in pill form hidden on his person.
Jeremy Hollman, 36, of Decatur was ultimately charged with a felony drug count as well as a felony charge of crossing the guard line with contraband. Other charges included marijuana possession, DUI of alcohol, open container and driving on the wrong side of the road.
