The Georgia Cattlemen’s Association honored a south Fayette cattle producer at its Cattlemen’s Ball April 6, as part of its 51st annual convention and trade show and 15th annual Georgia Beef Expo in Perry, Ga.
Mid-Georgia Cattlemen’s Association members Roger and Janet Greuel of Greuel Family Brangus in Brooks were recognized as the state association’s Seedstock Cattlemen of the Year.
The Gruels live on Price Road on a 26-acre farm and rent approximately 30 acres of pasture from neighbors.
The herd usually runs 30 head. Brangus is a composite beef breed of cattle of five-eighths Angus and three-eighths Brahman. Seedstock producers raise registered cattle to sell for breeding purposes.
Roger is retired from Delta Air Lines, while Janet is retired from Piedmont Fayette Hospital and South Fulton Hospital. They attend Fayetteville Christian Church and have lived in Fayette County 40 years.
“Each year, GCA recognizes outstanding cattlemen. They work hard throughout the year, running efficient farms and raising great cattle. They are an asset to their community as well as the cattle industry,” says Steve Blackburn, 2011-2012 state association president.
The Cattlemen of the Year awards are sponsored by Fuller Supply Company and Agri-Labs. Each year, nominations are given from local chapters and county agents for the award.
“We are delighted to have so many cattlemen nominated for these awards, and we really appreciate the Greuels for their work promoting beef in Georgia,” says Josh White, Georgia Cattlemen’s executive vice president.
Steve Blackburn, 2011-2012 association president, says the state group is very thankful for the Greuel family and all of their extraordinary accomplishments, not only to promote the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, but the beef industry as a whole.
