A domestic dispute in Fayetteville resulted in a young adult facing charges for fighting family members, police officers and other emergency personnel.
According to a spokesman with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived June 18 shortly before 7 p.m. at a residence on Sycamore Bend, off Hwy. 314 near Fayette Pavilion.
The suspect had been arguing with her parents and a sibling and the incident escalated to the point that she threatened them with a knife. One of her siblings was a minor child who witnessed the altercation. The suspect’s father was able to take the knife away from her, and both parents restrained her, according to reports.
Once law enforcement officers arrived, they determined that the suspect should be examined medically on the scene so they called for fire/EMS personnel. Ultimately the suspect assaulted one of the paramedics, and she actively resisted arrest throughout the process.
While she was restrained in the deputies’ car, she damaged the back of the vehicle and broke through the partition that separates the back seat from the front, officials said. Deputies were able to stop her from exiting the vehicle.
The county jail log showed Maya Muhleisen, 18, of Fayetteville being charged with felony counts of aggravated assault, obstruction of a firefighter, and escape. Other charges included four counts of simple battery against police, two counts of battery/family violence, and one count of cruelty to children in the third degree.
Elsewhere in the county, a car was stopped June 18 shortly before midnight north of Fayetteville because of improper lights. That led to a felony drug arrest.
Deputies stopped the suspect’s vehicle because he had alternating blue lights on the grill, which is against the law, an FCSO spokesman said. According to O.C.G.A. 40-8-90, such lights can only be on vehicles used by federal, state or local law enforcement agencies with one or two specific exceptions.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended license, officials said. After he was placed under arrest, suspected drugs were found on his person and other drug-related objects were also located.
Rahman Shaheed, 41, of Fayetteville faces a felony count of drug possession/sale/manufacture as well as charges of open container, use of a flash-revolving blue light, marijuana possession, and possession/use of drug-related objects, according to the jail log.
A June 18 traffic stop shortly after 1 a.m. in the area of Jeff Davis Drive and Jimmie Mayfield Blvd. resulted in a felony arrest of a passenger in the vehicle. Deputies found marijuana in a sufficient quantity and packaged for distribution, and the suspect had a handgun on his person, according to officials.
Luke Nguyen, 19, of Lugoff, S.C., faces two counts of drug possession/sale/manufacture and one count of possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a crime.
A Fayetteville man is in jail for ignoring a temporary protective order against him on behalf of his wife. Authorities learned that William Vanvorst, 47, made contact with her after the TPO was issued, so he was charged with aggravated stalking.
