Citizens interested in the inner workings of the Fayetteville Police Department will be able to get a peek inside police work at the fifth annual Citizens Police Academy.
The weekly two-hour classes will be held on Tuesday nights starting April 3 and ending June 19. A different aspect of the department will be covered each week with instruction from certified police officers, supervisors and civilian instructors Additional activities such as ride-alongs with officers and firearms training will be included.
Applicants must be a resident or business owner within the city limits of Fayetteville, because the information will be specific to the services and procedures of the Fayetteville Police Department, officials said. Also, applicants should plan to attend all 12 training days.
The class is limited to the first 20 qualified applicants. Applications may be picked up at the police department at 760 Jimmie Mayfield Boulevard, and they must be returned by March 20 at 5 p.m.
The goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to increase community involvement with the police department by improving citizen communications and helping citizens learn more about police practices and services. Graduates of the academy will be able to share their knowledge and experience with other members of the communities as opportunities arise.
