Former Peachtree City Mayor Haddix endorses former Mayor Brown

I agree with former City Councilman Eric Imker’s recent letter to the editor, https://thecitizen.com/2025/08/14/letter-to-the-editor-imker-endorses-steve-brown-james-clifton/,

and his assessment that former Mayor Vanessa Fleisch veered away from Peachtree City’s traditional land-use principles, setting us on a dangerous path, being followed to this day.

Former Councilman Mike King offered a glowing review of Mayor Kim Learnard, but he failed to mention the significant damage they jointly inflicted on our city’s comprehensive plan in 2022. Their changes opened the floodgates for large multi-family developments across Peachtree City, a stark departure from the vision that built our community.

Fleisch and King’s horrendous Livable Centers Initiative plan went even further down the disastrous path, proposing a city blanketed in apartments, condominiums, and townhouses. Mayor Learnard has shown every indication of continuing down that path, especially given her ties to the developer-backed Plan for PTC political action committee and her support for candidates like Tamara Moore, who favor high-density developments.

Even more troubling is the erosion of public trust. Fleisch and King once proposed using taxpayer dollars to sue residents who criticized them. Mayor Learnard has continued that disturbing trend by heavily restricting public participation and blocking council members from placing items on meeting agendas if she disagrees with them. That’s not good governance.

Steve Brown offers a clear alternative. His website lays out in detail how our city government has lost its way, and how we can fix it.

Like Imker and I, Brown is a fiscal conservative who believes in responsible budgeting.

Mayor Learnard may use the word “conservative” in her campaign materials, but her record, including campaign donations to far-left figures like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Stacey Abrams, tells a different story. Her constant tax increases and spending philosophy don’t align with the values of Peachtree City.

Brown and I also deserve credit for opposing the TDK Boulevard extension into Coweta County. Developers poured money into defeating him for reelection, but time proved him right, and every city council since has passed resolutions opposing the project. His foresight protected our community from a massive traffic disaster.

My proposal killed the proposed TDK EXTENSION into Coweta. SO I share a common opposition to what Learnard supported.

I worked with Steve Brown during his time on the Fayette County Board of Commissioners to preserve the assets that make our community one of the best places to live.

When Brown first ran for the Board of Commissioners, every living former Peachtree City Mayor endorsed his opponent, except me. He represented Peachtree city better his opponent.

Steve Brown has the experience and integrity to restore Peachtree City’s high standards. On behalf of the long-time residents who want to see our city get back to high standards and thrive again, I endorse Steve Brown for Mayor in the November 4 election.
