RiverLife’s 15th bi-annual #ServeCoweta event will take place next Saturday, September 20, at Newnan Utilities Carl Miller Park, bringing together community members to support local non-profits and families in need.
The event, hosted in partnership with a multitude of non-profit organizations – including Bridging the Gap, Habitat for Humanity, and Keep Newnan Beautiful – invites volunteers of all ages to show up and give back through service projects throughout the community.
“When we get together the impact is multiplied exponentially. That’s what #ServeCoweta is all about,” said Melanie Reeves, who co-founded RiverLife alongside her husband. “We can make so much more of a difference if we stand as one.”
The day begins at 9:00 with breakfast, music, and prize giveaways from #ServeLocal, #ShopLocal and #EatLocal. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet different non-profit partners and learn more about their missions before being assigned to a service project. Volunteers may be paired with a non-profit or sent out to assist local families by building wheelchair ramps, completing exterior home repairs, or taking on yard work. Before the projects begin, Ashley Collins, President and CEO of the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity, will offer a morning devotional.
Since its launch in 2018, #ServeCoweta has adapted to meet the evolving needs of the Coweta community – from hosting virtual events during the pandemic to providing tornado relief to the Newnan area in 2021. Today, it continues to thrive as a community event with multiple avenues to serve.
“One of my favorite things about this event is seeing people from all walks of life and organizations putting on their bright green shirts and serving side by side,” said Reeves. “Churches, schools, and local groups with different missions coming together to serve is just special to my heart.”Those interested in volunteering can register and find more information on Riverlife’s #ServeCoweta page.
