Letter to the Editor: Pass the Peachtree City budget!

Hi There,

I found myself pretty annoyed last night when two city council members decided to not support passing the budget after months of work and no publicly disclosed reasoning to not proceed. Seems like others might feel the same or benefit from knowing about this. Please use my email to them as a letter to the editor.

Councilman Holland and Councilwoman Brown,

I have the total confidence that our city staff and their manager are tremendous stewards of my tax dollars. Given the uncertainty of tax collection going forward, it doesn’t make any sense to draw down the reserves. If you have a data-derived reason to prove otherwise, please enlighten the rest of us. Peachtree City is a good place to live, and that doesn’t just magically happen!

As a taxpayer, I’d rather my already collected money be sitting in an interest-paying account! It’s not like the money is sitting buried under city hall, it is generating revenue now, which of course reduces the need for additional tax collection later.

Passing a budget is the most basic task of a city government, and you failed me tonight. If you want to save the taxpayer money, say what service you are going to cut! Leave these half-baked, feelings-based pontifications and governance to the folks in D.C.

Get it together.

Sincerely,

Jason Pohl
