According to Fox 5 Atlanta, A Coweta County man already facing multiple charges related to child molestation is now facing additional charges out of Peachtree City, as law enforcement continues to investigate alleged crimes dating back decades.
Peachtree City police this week announced new charges against 70-year-old Jefferson Thurmond, adding to the accusations already filed by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office in 2024. Authorities say the new charges include child molestation, sexual exploitation of a child, and obscene internet conduct.
Investigators in Coweta County initially arrested Thurmond after identifying three victims and uncovering indecent photos of children that reportedly date back to the 1980s. Now, Peachtree City authorities have connected one of their own victims to the case.
“The victim in this case came forward, and for us, the case goes back about a year,” said Lt. Brad Williams of the Peachtree City Police. “But for her, it goes back about 11–12 years, involving a family acquaintance when she was living in Peachtree City.”
Some of the photos seized by Coweta County investigators reportedly involve the Peachtree City victim as well.
So far, three victims have been identified across the two jurisdictions, but investigators emphasize the case remains active and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
