Fayetteville, Georgia – March 20, 2025The City of Fayetteville is continuing its efforts to revitalize the downtown district by embarking on a process to identify locations for pedestrian safety and roadway improvements; to establish locations and guidelines for public art, sculptures, and murals; to explore additional wayfinding and directional signage; and to create an arts district downtown along the Lee Street corridor. Through the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Communities Initiative (LCI) program, the City received funding to explore placemaking strategies throughout the downtown district, to include enhancements for the arts, walkability, and connectivity.
The City and their consultant team led by Cooper Carry is holding a public community workshop on Wednesday, March 26, 5-7 p.m. at 240 South Glynn Street. More details about the workshop can be found on the City’s website: www.fayetteville-ga.gov/events.
“This process is a continuation of our planning efforts to re-imagine and revitalize the downtown district to become more livable, walkable, and engaging,” said Director of Community Development David Rast. “The 2021 ‘Moving Fayetteville Forward’ LCI study included a significant amount of public input and led to a total revamp of our zoning ordinances. Zoning establishes the ‘bones’ of what is permitted while the recommendations from this study will help to establish the ‘fun factor’ within the downtown district.”
“Our team is excited by downtown Fayetteville’s historic charm and deep arts roots,” said project manager Allison Bickers from Cooper Carry. “We think this is the perfect time to create a more walkable downtown that supports small businesses, elevates creative uses, and augments what the City has been doing in their urban core.”
The consultant team of Cooper Carry, Croy Engineering, and Walnut Street Creative will be considering arts uses, placemaking interventions, mobility and walkability, transportation patterns, brand themes, and more. Follow the City of Fayetteville on their website, Facebook, and Instagram to stay informed about the project.
