The recently-passed Georgia House Bill 581 will be one of the main topics of discussion during the City of Fayetteville’s next HOA/POA Meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2025, 9:30-11 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chamber on the ground floor of Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Avenue West.
The City hosts HOA/POA Meetings to foster information sharing and to discuss various issues relevant to our neighborhoods in general and to our HOA/POAs in particular. While HOAs and POAs don’t enforce municipal ordinances, and the City doesn’t enforce HOA/POA covenants, together they can work to address challenges and build on successes. A basic overview of HOA/POA responsibilities and City responsibilities will be presented during the January 18 meeting.
House Bill 581, passed during the Georgia General Assembly 2024 Legislative Session and signed by Governor Brian Kemp, introduces changes that will impact local government revenue. This bill includes procedural modifications to property tax assessments and appeals, a new statewide homestead exemption (which local governments can opt out of), and a local option sales tax aimed at providing property tax relief. Fayetteville City Manager Ray Gibson will deliver an informational presentation and lead an open discussion about the City’s revenue collecting options moving forward.
Fayetteville Planning & Zoning Manager Julie Brown will also once again participate in the HOA/POA Meeting, as she brings the latest updates about construction projects happening around the community.
