The Senoia Area Historical Society will host a ribbon cutting on Saturday, January 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Senoia Historical Museum. The event will celebrate the completion of a major remodeling project known as the Carmichael Initiative.
Senoia Area Historical Society’s (SAHS) offices and museum are housed in the 1870s era Carmichael house located at 6 Couch Street in the Historic District of Senoia, Georgia.
Spearheaded by SAHS board president, Steve Maloy, the Carmichael Initiative replaced the siding, doors and windows on all four sides of the historical house, duplicating the original style and materials that were used in the 1870s as much as possible.
The society received a generous donation of approximately 19,000 linear feet of pine wood that was harvested from 110- to 140-year-old yellow pine trees. The wood replicates the building’s original siding.
The brick foundation pillars and underpinning were repaired and an addition to the original house was converted into a 15’ x 35’ meeting room which is also available for rent to the public.
Several personal and corporate donors contributed significant funds to the project. Major sponsors of the Carmichael Initiative include: Carl E. Smith Building Products, Ellis Crook, Greg Crook, Norcom Inc, Cindy and Skip King, Karen and Tom Nolan, Vickie and Sonny Pollard, Tina and Brent Scarbrough and Susan and Evan Stitt. Many volunteers and tradespersons also contributed to the renovation efforts.
The mission of the Senoia Area Historical Society (SAHS) is to secure, preserve, and promote the social and cultural history of the community. With that mission in mind the SAHS board of directors initiated the renovations and started a capital improvement project with the goal of raising funds to renovate the Carmichael house, where the historical museum is located.

The public is invited to attend Saturday’s festivities starting at 1:00 p.m. The museum will be open for touring and hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments will be served.
