The McIntosh Trail, the student news site of McIntosh High, strives for excellence in journalism, and their work is being recognized with Best of SNO honors.
Best of SNO showcases the best student journalism from around the country, and the Trail staff has three members who have been honored for individual stories.
Grace Lovejoy was awarded for the piece “The five freedoms in the First” about the Trail editors trip to the Student Press Law Center’s New Voices Institute. The director of the SPLC reached out to Grace to ask if they could call her, interview her, and feature her story on the SPLC’s website, and her piece was featured on their site.
Savannah Hayes was recognized for “Sour notes: MHS Capital Improvements impact marching band” about how upcoming construction will affect different programs.
August Moss was honored for her personality piece “A wild ride” about BMX rider Alexis Alden racing up the world rankings.
The Trail currently has five of the six awards needed to join the prestigious Distinguished Sites Program for the first time.
“We are continuing to work on the final badge and continuing to pursue news with honesty and integrity,” said Trail editor-in-chief Rebekah Bushmire. “We are extremely thankful for the continued support from our school and community.”
