Counterpane School is hosting a series of two events for high school students (grades 9 -12) and their parents/guardians to help guide them through financial aid procedures for Georgia residents. The events include a summary of financial aid options for college including the HOPE/Zell Scholarships and loans in the first session and actual step-by-step instructions to complete the FAFSA in the second session. A speaker from the Georgia Student Finance Commission will be presenting both seminars at Counterpane School at 839 Highway 314 in Fayetteville. Both events are free and open to the public; seating is limited.
What Is The FAFSA?
FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is required by the federal government when applying for federal grants, work-study, and loans for college. Individual colleges can also use the application to calculate scholarships.
The 2023-24 FAFSA form is used to calculate college financial aid for the 2024-25 school year and will be available in December 2023 and should be completed in a timely manner each year. The FAFSA must be completed for each year of college so most families will complete this form four times during the next four years.
Who Should Attend?
Families with students in grades 9 – 12 are invited to attend the Financial Aid Overview to understand the options in Georgia. Only families with 12th grade seniors are to attend the second event as they are the only ones who can complete the FAFSA.
Families must attend both events if they want to complete their FAFSA in the second as their FSA ID will be created in the first; seniors and their parents are to attend both events since the student is applying for financial aid and both have FAFSA sections to complete.
