Adelaide (Addie) Berg Edwards
Adelaide (Addie) Berg Edwards

Addie was born on March 31, 1933, in Pinebluff, North Carolina. One of two daughters, Addie, grew up during the Great Depression and WWII. She understood the meaning of sacrifice, hard work, resourcefulness, and dependability — values she passed to her children and grandchildren.

In 1951, Addie met Sydney Edwards on a blind date. After a long-distance courtship, they married on August 11, 1951. They were married for 37 years, until Sydney’s untimely death in May 1988.

Addie was the heart of her family — a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family through action and service — whether it was preparing home-cooked meals, sewing and mending clothes for her kids, or welcoming her mother-in-law into her home for almost 20 years. When necessary, she took on various jobs to help supplement the family’s income.

Raising a daughter and four sons, she supported her kids in countless ways as Room Mom, Team Mom, Band Mom, Den Mom, and PTA Chair. For many years she could be found in the bleachers supporting her children’s countless sporting events. Recently, she admitted she did not like baseball or football that much.

In her 90 years, she served and led her church and community in a multitude of ways. She was a volunteer and lent her lovely alto voice to the choir. She was an integral member of the Fayetteville and Peachtree City communities working as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, HOA President for the neighborhood she loved, and as a Poll Manager for many local and national elections.

Addie is preceded in death by her husband, Sydney, her only sister, Patricia Berg English, and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Hancock Edwards. She is survived by her five children, Greg Edwards, Fred Edwards (Robin), Sarah Edwards Stephens, Ted Edwards (Anne), and Kennedy Edwards (Barbara); fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Mowell’s Funeral Home, Peachtree City, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by the Holy Rosary. A Funeral Mass will be held at The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel, Fayetteville, on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation starting at 9:45 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Memorial Cemetery with Fr. Richard Vu officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Addie requested donations be made to The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel’s sound system or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The family would like to thank Holly Chapman, Visiting Angels, Southern Grace Hospice Care, and Addie’s faithful neighbors for their loving support.
