Early Friday morning, three men from Houston, Texas, were speeding through Peachtree City, drawing the attention of a Peachtree City Police officer.

That stop led to the discovery of hair weaves stolen earlier that morning from The Hair XChange in north Fayette County.

The three — Christopher Keith Collins, Paul E. Smith and Fredrick Wills — are being held in the Fayette jail on charges of smash-and-grab burglary, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page reported this crime-busting news Aug. 4:

“We’ve been waiting on other agencies to finish their investigations to be able to share this great teamwork! The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Peachtree City Police Department and Peachtree City Fire Rescue teamed up to catch a serial commercial burglary crew —  after only 15 minutes from an initial burglary-in-progress call. Thanks to the quick response and a traffic stop, we were able to work together to keep your community safe and criminals off our streets.”

The Peachtree City Police Department on its Facebook page shares its perspective on the speeding stop that solved some high-end store burglaries:

“Once upon a time, three people from Texas decided to shop at some closed businesses. You see, they needed to get hair weave. I’m sure they were going to return and pay for the weave they took and the broken windows. First, they went to Chamblee, then Doraville, and finally Fayetteville. Well, they didn’t realize that the speed on Hwy. 54 in Peachtree City near Commerce is 45 mph, and Ofc. Meehan stopped them to let them know that they shouldn’t be speeding in our fair city. As a result, the ill-gotten wares were recovered, and the dastardly trio were incarcerated. The end.”
