Sandy Creek is calling on the community to cheer on the Patriots as they take aim at a state football crown. On Saturday, Dec. 10, Sandy Creek plays the Cedar Grove Saints for the Class AAA GHSA State Football Championship.
The Patriots are back in the championship game for the first time since 2012 when they won their third title in four seasons.
The state championship game is set for Saturday, Dec. 10 at noon at Center Parc Stadium (formerly Turner Field). Game tickets are available through gofan.co, and parking can be purchased through Ticketmaster. — Story and graphic provided by the Fayette County School System.
Let’s not forget that it was the referees and not the players that made this call. While it’s always sad when an officiating call is incorrect and affects the outcome, It’s rather over the top to insinuate that the team that comes out on top should vacate the win when there was no cheating or broken rules involved.
It was a great game to watch!
Sandy Creek scored the go-ahead TD with 59 seconds remaining to win the Georgia Class 3A championship. However, the ball carrier … clearly never crossed the goal line and unfortunately there’s no instant replay system in GA HS games, even at the state championship level. I guess you could make the argument that the blown call was on a third-down play, and they could’ve scored on the next play with just seconds remaining but …
So with that said and not having any skin in this game, I’d be reluctant in taking the title and trophy home … just as one would do in golf if an egregious error had been made and called out later. Btw, this storyline result (blown call) did hit the national sports news wires.
