Several local charities were the ultimate winners as the Sharpsburg Council Knights of Columbus held their 13th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Summergrove Golf Course recently.
Ninety-six golfers enjoyed the Indian summer-like weather on the beautifully manicured course while competing for several awards including tournament winner.
The captain and crew format led to some interesting longest ball, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one shots where a Toyota Camry sponsored by Toyota of Newnan was the potential prize.
In addition to the round of golf the participants were able to take advantage of the ever popular raffle that included a wide range of prizes donated by several local businesses.
This year’s grand prize was a replica Atlanta Falcons helmet accompanied by two field level tickets to the Falcons vs. Jaguars game on December 2.
The event included the state warden, state treasurer and current president of the Georgia State Knights of Columbus, a foursome of Coweta County firefighters representing the Coweta first responders and Father Terry Crone, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
Once the 2019 results are tallied it is estimated that this annual event will have raised in excess of $115,000 over the past 13 years for the benefit of several Coweta and Fayette County charitable agencies.
The members of Council #12862 in Sharpsburg started the planning of this event back in June and are very grateful to the Golfers, sponsors, gift donors, Summergrove Golf Course and Toyota of Newnan for the perennial support that they provide. — Submitted by Pete Darcy, Grand Knight Council #12862
