Fayette Commission approves rezoning 19 acres for business

Chairman Ognio recuses himself from the vote on his project — 

A request to rezone a 19-acre parcel at Ga. Highway 279 and Old Road in north Fayette County from residential to business use was approved June 27 by the Fayette County Commission.

The vote was 3-0, with Chairman Randy Ognio recusing himself because he is a partner in the rezoning request by Ognio Holdings LLC.

County staff said the adjacent properties to the south and east are currently zoned light industrial, while a funeral home and low-density residential is located to the west.

The county’s comprehensive plan call for light industrial and low-density residential on the 18.8-acre tract.

County planning staff recommended approval.
