It is absolutely imperative that as Republicans we stand proudly and honorably in defense of our party, its principles, and its values.

I believe President Trump’s leadership, policies, and programs have been extremely successful thus far and are yielding good results for all Americans. Conversely, it is also imperative that we as advocates and supporters in the Republican Party hold our leaders to the highest standards and speak out against our elected officials, no matter their political affiliation, when required.

President Trump’s recent verbal assault on former Senator John McCain was unacceptable and moreover unnecessary. Sen. McCain honorably served our nation for many decades. He endured torture and terror at the hands of our enemy in a POW camp during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, his service as an elected official earned him our party’s nomination for president in 2008. To me, John McCain was and will always be an American hero.

In conclusion, it is my hope that President Trump will refrain from making incendiary comments about Sen. McCain, as well as other Americans for that matter. Such personal attacks significantly detract from his administration’s hard work and minimizes his stature as the leader of the Free World.

Rest in peace, Sen. McCain.
