The Fayetteville City Council on Nov. 15 delayed a decision on contributing funds to combine with public donations to develop a playground area at one of the city parks. The proposed Patriot Park location was not preferred by council members.

City Manager Ray Gibson in a Nov. 9 letter said Fayette County resident Ineke Eddy recently requested the council consider the possibility of the city teaming up with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to develop a playground area at Patriot Park.

“The council was interested in the possibility, but wanted to ensure a location was finalized before moving forward with support for the project to include the financial match,” Gibson said.

The council on Nov. 15 did not prefer the proposed Patriot Park location, Gibson said, noting that city staff will review the options for other locations. He said the council is expected to discuss the matter at a Dec. 7 meeting.

Gibson said the current option on the table is to provide a letter of support to Ms. Eddy and the 501(c)(3), in addition to the city potentially committing $100,000 in funding once the public donations reach $250,000.

Gibson said the council needs to determine the park location prior to moving forward with the letter of support.
