The Fayette County Fire Marshal James Hall reminds residents that the outdoor burn ban ended Oct. 1, but not the requirement to first get a permit.

Though the outdoor burn ban is lifted, Hall said there are still a number of variables to consider. The first thing is to obtain a burn permit any time you want to have an outside fire between Oct. 1 and April 30. Daily burn permits will be issued online by visiting www.fayettecountyga.gov.

Burning must occur between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and all fires must be extinguished by sunset.

All burning must be at least 50 feet from any structure, with fire extinguishing equipment readily available.

Burn piles must be no greater than 1,000 cubic feet, and no more than one pile can be burned at a time.

Hall noted that land clearing or construction right-of-way is not covered under residential permits, noting that contractors must obtain a commercial burn permit.
