A Fayette County woman faces charges after she pulled a knife on her husband and later fired a shot in his direction while in proximity to neighboring homes, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Martha Sliauter, 77, was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and simple assault, Babb said.

Deputies on July 24 responded to a domestic dispute call on Kenwood Road in reference to a shot being fired.

Sliauter’s husband said the couple had been in an argument and his wife lost her temper. The man said she first pulled a butcher knife, at which point he left and went outside to a gazebo in the back yard, Babb said.

The husband said she followed him outside carrying a pistol, waving the gun at him and discharging one round directly to his left, noting that his wife was some distance away from him while firing the round, said Babb, adding that there were other homes in geographical proximity to the residence.

Babb said the woman admitted that her husband was correct in his statements.
