It almost never happens in Fayette County that a property owner makes a rezoning request to go from higher density to lower density. But that is what happened June 28 when the owner of 18 acres fronting the Ga. Highway 85 Connector requested and received a less dense residential zoning.
Applicant Richard Bailey, owner of 17.85 acres fronting the Hwy. 85 Connector, requested a rezoning from R-20 (one acre lots) to A-R (five acre lots) to establish four lots.
Fayette County commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the request. Chairman Eric Maxwell was not at the meeting.
The property is part of a larger tract, all totaling 80 acres. Commissioners wanted to make sure that, given the topography, four lots on the rezoned property would be possible.
