Thousands of drivers are aware of the paving efforts along the length of Ga. Highway 54 through Fayette County that began April 30 and are well underway. Two letters to the editor have complained about the long wait times at all the red lights on Hwy. 54 all the way across Fayette.

But be patient, there is plenty of work left before the project is completed at the end of August.

Left-turn and right-turn lanes have received the initial coat of asphalt. Crews are currently working on travel lanes, with the westbound inside lane paved throughout the county and the eastbound inside lane paved through much of Peachtree City.

The contract calls for crews to utilize a single, continuous lane closure on weekends to speed-up the time the public will be impacted by the paving work. The lane closures will be allowed daily from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Those traveling along Hwy. 54 should continue to be aware of the potential for paving activity throughout the summer. The contract completion date is Aug. 31.

There had been a problem in recent weeks with delays on Hwy. 54 caused by the incorrect timing of traffic signals at intersections, which led to long delays.
