A request by Commissioner Steve Brown that the board ask the Ga. Department of Transportation (DOT) to withdraw plans to widen McDonough Road in Fayette County, and that those funds be used for other projects such as the interchange at Ga. Highway 74 and Interstate 85, was put aside until the county transportation committee can review the document.

Brown in the proposed resolution said DOT had taken the widening project out of the control of the DOT office responsible for Fayette, adding that there is no citizen demand for the project. More importantly, Brown maintained that the project would have a negative impact on traffic in downtown Fayetteville.
Brown after initial comments made a motion to adopt the resolution.
Commissioner Chuck Oddo added that the resolution did not go through county staff or the county transportation committee and he would not support it.
Oddo suggested continuing the conversation during the scheduled June meeting with DOT.
After significant back and forth about a second to the motion, the vote on the motion to accept the resolution went nowhere.
Brown made another motion that the issue be remanded to the next county transportation committee meeting and bring the resolution back to the commission for the June 14 meeting.
Chairman Randy Ognio seconded the motion.
The subsequent vote was unanimous.
“We have to start involving our staff and attorney on these resolutions,” Oddo said. “We have to get involvement before it gets up here.”
