Director of Public Services Chris Hindman in a March 2 letter said city staff reviewed three bids that were received on Feb. 2 for the Highway 54 Pedestrian Improvement Project.

The project scope consists of performing improvements to the intersection at Hwy. 54 West and Togwatee Village Parkway and the Fayette Piedmont entrance to help pedestrians cross the roadway.

Hindman said new pedestrian signals will be added with the countdown timers and a landscaped median to help give a visual break in the asphalt and concrete of the existing intersection.

Staff recommended approval of the bid to Construction 57, Inc., in the amount of $486,460, which as the lowest responsive bid, Hindman said.

The project will be funded through the use of $328,659 in Transportation Enhancement Grant funds through the Georgia Department of Transportation and $157,800.80 in local funds, said Hindman.
