Mary Eleanor Motley, 86, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2018 after her fourth battle with cancer. Her firm belief in God provided both her, and her family, comfort and peace during her illness.
Mary (“Baby” to many) was born on May 17, 1931 in Valley, Ala. She was the only child of Leila Harris Fuller. At a young age, she fell in love with music and learned to play the piano. Several years later, she broadened her skills and learned to play the organ.
On September 22, 1959, Mary married David Harrison Motley of Lanett, Ala. They started their journey in Jacksonville, Fla. before moving to Georgia. In 1973, they planted roots in Peachtree City, Ga. and welcomed their lovely daughter Tina Jan Motley.
Mary was a faithful servant of God. She was a Charter Member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church. Mary joyfully used her spiritual gift of music and was the organist for over 30 years at PTCUMC.
Along with her love of music, Mary thoroughly enjoyed reading – so much so that she created a bookstore’s worth of inventory in her own home! She passed on this love for music and reading to both her daughter and two grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband, David; her daughter, Tina (Steve) Strandburg; her grandchildren, Caden and Ansley Strandburg; her cousins, Mary Ann (Bill) Flinn and Melanie (Ed) Cerne; her brothers-in-law, Gene (June) Motley, Jim (Julellyn) Motley, Larry (Shirley) Motley; and her four nieces and nephew.
