William (Mr. Bill) Walter Stephens, Jr. died peacefully in his home in Union City on Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2018.
Mr. Stephens, a 21 year cancer survivor, was born on May 24, 1938 to William Walter Stephens, Sr. and Lilly Stephens in McBee, S.C. He lived there until graduating high school and then moved to Atlanta, where he met and married Mary Jo Burris on July 22, 1957. They remained married for over 60 years until his passing.
Mr. Bill touched countless lives through his music ministry, Silver Hair Ministries. Singing old time gospel music in local nursing homes and churches was his love and passion. Before retiring in 2000, he owned a successful home remodeling business.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Stephens; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Cathryn Stephens of Brookhaven; daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Aneta Harris of Senoia; grandsons, Curry and Jud; granddaughters, Danielle, Lily and Avery; brother, Lovel Stephens; and sister, Hazel.
Mr. Stephens’ life will be celebrated with music on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lester Road Christian Church, 3900 Newton Rd., Fairburn, Ga., where he and Mary Jo were members. Following the service, everyone is invited to attend a covered dish dinner in the church’s fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lester Road Christian Church to be used in the music and fellowship ministries.
