A Dec. 7 field trip by 160 third graders from Newnan Crossing Elementary School, and their teachers, took them to the state Capitol. Riding with the kids to their destination was District 28 Sen. Matt Brass (R-Newnan). “Senator Brass showed our students what it means to be a caring and thoughtful legislator,” said 3rd grade teacher Ashley Vasconcelles. “The students were going to see first-hand our social studies standards in action. Senator Brass and his staff organized our day and made sure we were exposed to the many different parts of our state government.” He and state Representative Lynn Smith, of Newnan, helped them tour the Capitol building and took photos with the students and teachers.
