Outpouring shows community that cares

It is heartbreaking to see the devastation and the lives impacted so powerfully by the recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida, but it is so heartwarming to see how our community has responded to meet the needs of those who struggle.

Over the past month, I have witnessed first-hand the generosity of our community. Midwest Food Bank asked our community to support the disaster relief efforts. The response has been overwhelming.

We asked for volunteers to come to the food bank to help sort and prepare disaster relief items for delivery. Over 450 people showed up on a Saturday morning to help.

We asked for disaster relief supplies and literally tons of donations have flowed into the warehouse.

We asked for the community to put together 1 gallon Ziploc bags filled with basic toiletry items. To date, we have received close to 6,000 bags.

We asked for financial support for disaster relief, and tens of thousands of dollars have been donated.

I just want to say thank you to our community for caring. I want to say thanks on behalf of the thousands of people who have benefited from your generosity. We are blessed to live in a community that cares. Thank you all for your continued support.
