Council eyes low bid on dam repair: $4.38 million

The Aug. 17 meeting of the Peachtree City Council will include the adoption of the millage rate, an enabling legislation resolution pertaining to the Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) and contracts relating to the Lake Peachtree spillway project.

In a change from a previous hearing on the budget, city staff now is recommending a full rollback of the property tax millage rate at 6.232 mills for maintenance and operations and a .273-mill rate for the bond millage. Essentially, the two rates represent no tax increase for property owners.

The council will also consider a resolution to the Ga. General Assembly to adopt changes to WASA’s enabling legislation.

The council on July 20 reviewed options available to the council to retain control over WASA’s ability to expand service beyond the city limits. The council expressed an interest in pursuing two of the four options presented.

Those two options include: petition the General Assembly to amend the WASA enabling legislation to expressly require council approval of extra-territorial expansion; and amend the WASA enabling legislation to reconstitute the WASA board with a majority or all of its members constituting the membership of the City Council.

The resolution to be considered reflects the two options.

Also at the meeting, the council will consider a $4.387 million low bid by North Georgia Concrete, Inc. for the Lake Peachtree spillway project. Bids ranged from $4.387 million to $7.081 million.

Fayette County will contribute $2 million and SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) revenues will make up the remaining amount.

The council will also consider hiring Integrated Science and Engineering as the project manager for the project for a total of $358,850. Funding for project management will come from SPLOST revenues.
