Mr. Nunes passed away on May 13, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret Yates Nunes, and members of his and her extended families.
Born in Taunton, Mass. on July 2, 1929, he was the son of John and Zulmira Nunes, who emigrated from the Island of Maderia, Portugal. His three brothers, Ayres, Jospeh, and Edward preceded him in death.
Born at the beginning of the Great Depression, his childhood memories were of making do and hard work. WWII saw his older brothers off to war leaving him with the eldest son responsibilities. Al joined the Army at age 17, fought in the Korean War and retired 30 years later as a Chief Warrant Officer. During his service he went from an Infantry Rifleman to Electronic Warfare Specialist who was stationed from the Equator to the Artic Circle. Among his awards were the Army Commendation Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. All four brothers served either in the US Army or Navy. After his retirement, he took an engineering position with Sanders Assoc. in Nashua, N. H.
A wonderful husband and uncle, he and his wife traveled the world in retirement; they shared a passion for golf and travel.
Al lived his life to its fullest, in his own way.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in his honor to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate.
