The Rev. William J. “Bill” Shelton, Newnan, was named and installed as an honorary Archdeacon in the Diocese of the Mid-South in recognition of his more than 20 years of faithful service to his diocese, his cathedral, and his bishops.

Shelton was a retired firefighter and paramedic having served in a supervisory capacity in Peachtree City. He also served in other departments.

He is a charter member of the Cathedral of Christ the King, Sharpsburg and, for ten years, served as a law enforcement chaplain for the Peachtree City Police Department.

He is a member of the Commission on Ordination  for the diocese and is a member of the Rector’s Council at Christ the King.

He and his wife Donna have two adult children and several grandchildren.

With Shelton’s family and clergy friends present, the presentation was made April 26 by Bishop David Epps at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City.
