Fayette County School System reports low jobs turnover rate

Aside from being Fayette County’s largest employer, if judged by turnover rates, the Fayette County School System seems to be a desirable place to work.

The school system employs approximately 1,500 teachers. A check of resignations and transfers across all schools over the past two years showed 74 resignations and 43 transfers in 2016 and 52 resignations and 19 transfers in 2017.

Resignations and transfers result from a variety of reasons.

Information provided by the school system showed 0-5 resignations at the various elementary schools during the two-year period, with five resignations coming at Kedron and four at North Fayette in 2016 and five at Spring Hill in 2017.

In terms of transfers, Cleveland led with five in 2016 while North Fayette had three in 2017.

Middle school records showed 0-6 resignations during the two-year period and 0-5 transfers, depending on the school.

Bennett’s Mill and Flat Rock each had four resignations in 2016, along with five transfers at Flat Rock.

In 2017, Bennett’s Mill had six resignations followed by four at Flat Rock and three at Booth. Flat Rock this year had a high of three transfers, compared to one or none at the other middle schools.

At the county’s high schools during 2016, Sandy Creek had 12 resignations followed by 10 at Fayette County, eight at Starr’s Mill, six at McIntosh and two at Whitewater.

Transfers during the same period totaled six at Sandy Creek and one each at Fayette County, McIntosh and Starr’s Mill.

In 2017, there were eight resignations at Sandy Creek, including Chip Walker and two other coaches. McIntosh had six resignations while Fayette County had four, Whitewater had two and Starr’s Mill had one.

Transfers were few, with three coming at Sandy Creek, two at McIntosh and one at Fayette County.
