The family of David “Garrett” Watkins has announced his boot camp graduation Jan. 27 from United States Coast Guard TRACEN Cape May, NJ.
Watkins graduated in the top seven of 83 recruits in company Whiskey 193, receiving two of the 10 company honors issued at graduation. He was awarded the LCDR Charles L. Gow Company Yeoman Award and The Best Shipmate Award.
Watkins is stationed at USCG base Portsmouth, VA and reports for active duty on the 270-foot cutter the Northland WMEC 904. Northland’s primary missions are law enforcement, defense operations, search and rescue that are conducted in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico and to include occasional tours up the New England coast.
USCG is one of the five branches of the Unites States military forces and operates under the Department of Homeland Security.
Watkins is a 2015 graduate of Whitewater High School and the son of Bill Jones and Pamela Woodworth-Jones of Gambier, OH and Ken Watkins of Fayetteville; the grandson of David and Mary Woodworth of Newnan and Estelle Morales of Fayetteville.
