Paul Tavares, 69, of Fayetteville, Ga., died on Friday, December 9, 2016.  

He leaves behind  Penny Gail (Kemp/Pruitt) Tavares, his wife of 25 years.  

Born in Fall River, Mass. to Joseph Tavares and Mary (Ferreira) Tavares, he lived there as a young man before serving in the United States Air Force.  After serving two tours in Vietnam, he received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant.  

He eventually became a mechanic, a manager, and then a planner for Northwest Airlines (eventually Delta).  Serving as a dedicated employee for over thirty years, he lived near Minneapolis, Minn.; Ypsilanti and Detroit, Mich.; Fayetteville, Ga.; Singapore and Hong Kong.  He lived the remainder of his life in Fayetteville.

He was a member of Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church and a dedicated community member.  

He is survived by four children and one step child:  Kathryn Kiecker of Minnesota (spouse, Kory Kiecker); John Tavares of Texas (spouse, Mary Tavares); Nicole Tavares Puckett of Michigan; Rebecca Chapman of New York (spouse, Marc Chapman); and Tony Pruitt of Tennessee (spouse, Sandy Pruitt). He is survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church, 1183 Hwy. 92 South, Fayetteville, Ga. 30215.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled Veterans.
