The Coweta County Commission on Nov. 15 approved a $15,900 state-required archaeological survey at Chattahoochee Bend State Park. The study is required for the proposed Chattahoochee Hill Country Regional Greenway Trail.

An archaeological study was conducted by Southeastern Archaeological Services in 2013 but the study was subsequently rejected by the Environmental Division of the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) because it did not meet applicable standards, said County Administrator Michael Fouts.

“Environmental is requiring an archaeological survey of the proposed Chattahoochee Hill Country Regional Greenway Trail corridor within the state park,” said Fouts.

Fouts said Prime Engineering has worked with DOT to narrow the scope of the survey for the portion of the greenway trail project located in Chattahoochee Bend State Park in northwest Coweta.

A contract amendment totaling $15,900 was unanimously approved by commissioners.
