Families are invited to bring items to pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child this Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church.
Children’s Minister Tracy Williamson explains, “We’re excited to support this ministry that reaches out to children around the world with the love of Christ through shoeboxes packed with simple items that are so appreciated. Go to samaritanspurse.org/OCC and choose the age of the child you want to pack a shoebox for, then buy those items. We provide the shoeboxes, a craft and snack, and children or families can take a photo with our very own Santa Don.”
Senior Pastor Herb Flanders adds, “Samaritan’s Purse is such a worthwhile organization with a great mission — you can follow the shoebox you pack to see what country it goes to, so it’s a great way for even the youngest children to see where they are making a difference. This is ‘Make a Difference Sunday’ at Providence so all of the shoeboxes will be brought to the altar during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services and a special prayer offered for all the children who receive them. Even if you can’t be here Saturday, bring your shoebox on Sunday.”
Providence is at 592 Bernhard Rd., in southern Fayette County between Redwine Road and Ga. Highway 85. Go to provumc.com or call 770-719-8800 for more info.
